The Royal-Oak may be Audemars Piguet’s most iconic creation, but the Millenary has steadily earned its place as one of the brand’s most distinctive and instantly recognizable designs since its debut. With its oval case and off-centered dial layout, it may not be the first AP that comes to mind—but it is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing.
A bit of history on the Millenary: the concept for its horizontally oval case traces back to a 1951 Audemars Piguet design that never gained traction at the time and was eventually shelved. Decades later, the idea was revived and refined, leading to the launch of the Millenary collection in 1995—named in celebration of the approaching third millennium.
On offer here is reference 25822ST, a steel chronograph measuring 41 × 37 mm, featuring a blue cabochon crown and two pushers on the right side for chronograph operation.
It presents a striking black pie-pan–style dial with white printed text, a telemeter scale, and a base-1000 tachymeter. Three sub-dials serve the chronograph functions, complemented by a date window that balances the layout—complete with a magnifier integrated into the inside of the crystal. Oversized Arabic numerals act as hour markers, further enhancing the watch’s bold and unconventional character.
The watch is fitted with the pictured leather strap and comes equipped with a stylish steel AP folding clasp. Furthermore, the watch comes with its original certificate of origin, stating a sale in Belgium.
