Brian Eno – Discreet Music

Brian Eno’s Discreet Music from 1975 is widely regarded as a milestone in the development of ambient music. The album introduced Eno’s concept of music that, in his own words, can be “both negligible and interesting.” The long title track is a generative piece, created using a system of tape loops that ensures a constantly evolving yet subtle listening experience. On the B-side, Eno dissects Pachelbel’s famous Canon in D into a minimalist and alienating composition. It is a fundamental work that forever changed the function and form of background music.

Ambient, minimal music, experimental electronica. This album laid the foundation for the ambient genre and shows influences of the minimalism of composers such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass.
