Founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron in Geneva, Vacheron Constantin is the world’s oldest continuously operating watchmaker. Renowned for its high-complication timepieces and “Holy Trinity” status, the firm became “Vacheron & Constantin” in 1819 after François Constantin joined to expand its international presence. The brand registered its iconic Maltese Cross logo in 1880.
Presented here is a “Calatrava-style” dress watch from the early 1950s, executed in a 32 mm steel case. Notably, it features a screw-down case back—an uncommon detail for the period. The case is further distinguished by elegant curved lugs and a small, refined winding crown.
The dial is beautifully executed with a two-tone finish: a brushed inner sector with a small running seconds at 6 o’clock, and an outer ring with a contrasting brushed texture. It features six applied Arabic numerals and six applied dot markers in gold tone, complemented by fine, non-luminous leaf-shaped hands.
The watch is paired with a Bulang and Sons leather strap, and its hand-wound calibre 453 has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
