Designed by Gérald Genta and introduced by Audemars Piguet in 1972, the Royal Oak redefined the luxury watch industry. Widely regarded as the world’s first luxury stainless steel sports watch, it arrived during the height of the Quartz Crisis and played a pivotal role in securing the future of traditional Swiss watchmaking.
Presented here is the Reference 56175BA, introduced in the 1990s, when ultra-thin quartz watches were at the height of fashion. Thanks to its quartz movement, Audemars Piguet was able to reduce the case thickness to just 5.8 mm, creating an exceptionally elegant Royal Oak that slips effortlessly beneath a shirt cuff while retaining all of the collection’s unmistakable design cues.
The 33 mm 18 ct yellow gold case remains in excellent condition, with the original factory bevels and sharp lines beautifully preserved. The integrated 18 ct yellow gold bracelet is equally impressive, showing very little wear and currently accommodating wrists up to approximately 19 cm.
The cream-coloured dial is wonderfully clean and features a finely printed railroad minute track, a date aperture at 3 o’clock, and beautifully aged cream-coloured lume on both the hour markers and hands. The warm patina complements the gold-printed Audemars Piguet signature perfectly, creating a harmonious and refined appearance.
The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker, with the quartz Calibre 2612 fitted with a fresh battery, and is ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.
