When a Red Sub is the Deepest Black
The Red Sub has always been seen as one of the jewels of any Rolex collection and the rare meters-first Mk1 is arguably theone to have. This Mk1 dial is in outstanding condition and has remained a deep black colour. The text remains crisp on the dial and the lume on the hour markers has aged to nice creamy colour. As a perfect compliment to the deep black dial, the bezel insert is also deep black and all original, including the tritium bezel pearl. The solid link Oyster bracelet, ref 93150, is in good original condition, except for a small knick on the reverse of one of the links. The bracelet has a clasp stamped ‘S 1’ and reference 580 endlinks. The watch is accompanied by a number of original accessories including inner box, cigarette card, anchor, booklet, 1970 calendar and even the hangtag. The 1680 has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.

“I really love the overall look of this Red Sub. Where often these Mk1 dials go a brown colour, this one is perfectly deep black and so the red text just pops off the dial. The black bezel also combines with the dial to give the watch a depth that on the wrist is stunning – even the little spot on the nine o’clock marker is cool. Like Cindy Crawford’s beauty spot! The case is in great shape, which is also a rarity as these MK1 cases weren’t so fat to begin with. This is a special watch and it would be a serious addition to any watch collection.
