Founded in 1875 in Le Brassus, Switzerland, by Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet, Audemars Piguet is best known today for its defining Royal Oak collection. However, prior to 1972, the company focused primarily on high-complication movements, developing, for example, one of the first minute-repeater wristwatches as early as 1892.
From the 1930s onwards, Audemars Piguet also became renowned for its ultra-thin dress watches. These movements were exceptionally difficult to design and produce, serving as a true demonstration of technical mastery—allowing elegant timepieces to achieve remarkable slimness and refinement.
Presented here is a charming pre-reference, “Tank-style” dress watch in 18k rose gold. The case, measuring 25 × 29 mm including the lugs, remains in lovely condition. It features a snap-on case back and a small, discreet winding crown.
The dial is executed in a matte cream tone, with painted black Roman numerals and simple rose gold stick hands. In keeping with its minimalist design, there is no lume and no seconds hand, enhancing its understated elegance.
The watch is fitted with an original Audemars Piguet leather strap, and its hand-wound ultra-thin movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker. For those who appreciate the quiet mastery of early Audemars Piguet!
