Omega Multiscale Dial Chronograph Cal 28.9

The story of Omega SA began in 1848, when 23-year-old watchmaker Louis Brandt opened a small workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. From these humble beginnings, Omega would grow into one of the most respected names in Swiss watchmaking, earning worldwide recognition for its innovations in precision timing, professional sports watches, military chronographs, deep-sea diving instruments, and space exploration.

Among the brand’s most important early technical achievements was the Omega Calibre 28.9 CHRO — Omega’s first compact wrist chronograph movement, produced in very limited numbers between 1932 and approximately 1943. Developed in collaboration with Lemania, where the movement was known as the Lemania 13CH, the 28.9 mm calibre formed the technical foundation for many of Omega’s future chronographs and would ultimately evolve into the legendary Calibre 321 later used in the first NASA-approved Speedmaster models.

Closely related to the better-known Calibre 33.3, the Calibre 28.9 is considered significantly rarer today and remains highly sought after among collectors of early Omega chronographs.

Presented here is a charming 33 mm chronograph housed in a steel snap-back case with distinctive olive-shaped pushers, giving the watch a wonderfully elegant and unmistakably vintage character.

The cream-coloured dial is especially attractive and features a beautifully detailed multiscale layout executed in multiple colours. The base/mileage scale is printed in red, the telemeter scale in blue, while a finely detailed minute track completes the design in black. Applied Arabic numerals add further depth to the dial, while the absence of lume preserves the clean and refined appearance.

Elegant blued hands perfectly complete the overall aesthetic and add just the right amount of contrast and sophistication.
