The Rolex Datejust was introduced in 1945 to mark Rolex’s 40th anniversary and quickly became one of the most influential wristwatches ever produced. Remaining in continuous production ever since, the Datejust stands today as one of the longest-running, most recognisable, and most successful watch collections in the world.

At the time of its launch, the Datejust represented a major technical achievement as the world’s first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch with a date display that changed automatically at midnight. Combining reliability, elegance, and everyday practicality, it laid the foundation for the modern calendar wristwatch as we know it today.

The classic 36 mm Oyster case remains in lovely condition and is fitted with the correct smooth bezel for this rarer reference — a detail that gives the watch a slightly sportier and more understated appearance compared to its fluted counterparts.

The silver dial is particularly attractive, featuring a rarer matte, non-soleil finish that gives the watch a wonderfully soft and restrained character. The pie-pan dial further features warm cream-coloured lume plots and crisp black printed text, creating a beautiful vintage aesthetic throughout.

The watch is fitted with a folded Rolex Oyster bracelet, reference 7836, complete with end links stamped 258 and a clasp dated “3 71.”
