We always love to see a yellow gold Datejust, offering a slightly more understated presence on the wrist than a Day-Date. This particular example features a beautiful and very rare matte lemon/champagne “Buckley” dial — named after legendary New York dealer John Buckley, who is closely associated with these distinctive designs.
The 36mm yellow gold case remains robust, complemented by a well-defined 18k fluted bezel. The rare matte “Lemon” dial is in excellent condition, featuring crisp black text and Roman numerals, perfectly matched by the original black hands.
All Buckley dials carry an additional element of rarity, though most examples encountered are white matte versions. The coloured Buckley dials are among the rarest; this “lemon” variant—resembling the tone of the ultra-rare exotic gold dials seen on hand-wound Daytona references—is, in our opinion, one of the finest, adding yet another dimension of rarity.
It is fitted on a lovely Bulang & Sons leather strap with a Rolex plaque pin buckle. Furthermore, the watch comes with a rare Rolex inner box, calendar card, two booklets, and a Rolex cardholder. The original guarantee paper indicates a sale in 1984.
The watch, along with its quickset movement, has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker.
Add a touch of summer to your collection with this Lemon Buckley!
