The Rolex Day-Date, introduced in 1956, made horological history as the first waterproof, self-winding chronometer to display both the date and the full day of the week spelled out on the dial. Produced exclusively in precious metals, it has always been crafted only in 18k gold or platinum.
For its debut, Rolex created a distinctive three-piece bracelet with semi-circular links, officially named the President bracelet.
The watch became closely associated with global power after Lyndon B. Johnson was often seen wearing a yellow gold example during the 1960s. Rolex later embraced this connection, promoting it as “the watch worn by presidents.”
This particular Day-Date features a champagne linen-effect dial with unusual hour markers and Sigma markings. While preserving the classic character of the watch, these details add a unique and distinctive touch. The luminous plots and hand lume have aged beautifully, developing a very pleasing patina over time. The day disc is displayed in Spanish.
The watch is fitted with a non-concealed clasp ( stamped ‘4 72’) President bracelet in excellent condition, suitable for wrists up to approximately 18.5 cm, and featuring the correct and rarely seen “Bark” hand-finishing. The slow-set movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
