Launched in 1953 alongside another legend, the Rolex Submariner, the Rolex Explorer set the tone for what a proper tool watch should be. Built with mountaineering in mind—think Himalayan expeditions—it was all about legibility, robustness, and reliability. (And yes, the Rolex Turn-O-Graph made its debut that same year as well.)
Since then, the Explorer has built a reputation as one of the most versatile watches out there. The kind of piece that can genuinely be your only watch—and still feel right in almost any situation.
While the model has seen its share of updates over the decades, the core formula hasn’t really changed: steel Oyster case, black dial, Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9, and no date. Simple, functional, and exactly the point.
At hand we have a reference 114270, produced from 2001 to 2010 as the refined successor to the 14270. The classic 36mm case is in excellent condition, paired with a smooth bezel and a strong Oyster bracelet (ref. 78690) with solid end links and a clasp stamped “CL2.”
The watch comes with its original Rolex punched guarantee paper, confirming a sale in Singapore in 2004—always a nice detail.
It has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is ready for many more years on the wrist.
No fuss, no noise—just a great Explorer. Get in touch.
