The Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513, produced from 1962 to 1989, boasts one of the longest production runs in brand history. Conceived as a more accessible alternative to the chronometer-certified Ref. 5512, it became an iconic, utilitarian blueprint that laid the groundwork for future no-date Submariners.
Early models featured glossy black dials with gilt (gold-colored) text and minute tracks and in the late 1960s Rolex switched to matte black dials with white text .Early matte dials read “200m=660ft” (meters first). In 1969, Rolex shifted to “660ft=200m” (feet first) to increase appeal in the rapidly expanding United States market.
At hand we have such a specimen , a 1968 “Meters First “ execution with a nice case with a very slight faded bezel insert fitted.
The Meters first dial has a typical for this serial “band aid “lume were the lume is applied looking under a magnifying glass as you guessed it “band aid like “, the lume colour is a warm light beige .We fitted this fine tool watch with one our Bulang and sons leather straps.The watch has been fully serviced and is ready for new adventures upcoming years.
