Tudor Submariner 79090 Black Dial with Original Warranty Paper

The Tudor Submariner ref. 79090 arrived in 1989 as the last Tudor Submariner to feature the much-loved acrylic crystal, making it a rather interesting chapter in the Submariner story.

The 79090 sits right on the line between Tudor’s old-school tool-watch era and what came next. Most notably, Tudor brought back the classic Mercedes hands, replacing the distinctive square “Snowflake” hands that had defined the previous generations of Submariners. It was offered in both black and blue, with matching dials and bezels.

Production continued until 1995, when the 79090 was replaced by the ref. 79190. This successor brought the Tudor Submariner firmly into a more modern era, with a flat sapphire crystal and a unidirectional clicking bezel.

For collectors, the 79090 has plenty going for it: an acrylic crystal, Mercedes hands, classic Submariner proportions and just enough 1990s character. A proper Tudor tool watch, but with one foot firmly in the modern world.

This lovely black variation comes with a thick case and an unmolested, non-faded bezel insert. The black dial features the classic triangle markers and has developed a lovely creamy tone to the lume on both the hands and plots.

The folded Tudor Oyster bracelet ref. 9315 with 380B end links is in equally nice condition and carries a clasp stamped 02.

Adding to the appeal, this fine Submariner comes with its original warranty paper, confirming a sale in 1990.

The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is ready for many more years of collecting and wearing.

Plexi, Mercedes hands, great proportions and a proper old-school tool-watch feel. The 79090 is one of those Tudors that just keeps getting better. Off the radar, but very much on our radar !
